The QUIT BUCKS™ Program is designed to make nicotine replacement patches, gum and lozenges available to the lower income population where smoking rates are high. Private insurers are making the program available to some of their members, as well.
| Who's eligible? |
People who have Medicare or VHAP insurance or are uninsured are eligible. The program does not cover Medicaid recipients. In addition, CIGNA, BCBS, MVP, and TVHP are participating in a one-year pilot program through which their fully insured members can obtain NRT with Quit Bucks™ and $20 co-pay per coupon. |
| What are the
requirements? |
Anyone receiving QUIT BUCKS™ must also participate in ongoing counseling or classes to support their quit attempt. That support is available through local classes or counseling or through the Vermont Quit Line (877-YES QUIT). A coupon is good for a two-week supply of NRT; the person must participate in cessation counseling in order to receive another coupon. |
| How do folks
get QUIT BUCKS™ Coupons? |
There is a Tobacco Coordinator at each hospital in Vermont who distributes QUITBUCKS™ and offers low cost classes and one to one counseling in tobacco cessation. The coordinator determines the person’s eligibility for QUIT BUCKS™ and verifies insurance coverage. |
| What does QUIT BUCKS™ provide? | Nicoderm CQ® patches, Nicorette® gum, and Commit® lozenges. The coordinator indicates the product and dosage required on the coupon. Sometimes the gum or lozenges are recommended for use at the same time as the patch. |
| Where are coupons redeemed? | All of the major pharmacy chains and most independent pharmacies in Vermont participate in the program. |
