Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for the coupons?
Any adult in Vermont who gets tobacco cessation counseling through the Ready, Set…STOP program at their local hospital is able to get free NRT through the Quit Bucks Program.

Do I have to write anything on the coupons?
Fill in the “Pharmacy Information” box: Pharmacy, signature and date. AND indicate the price of the product(s).

Do I have to know the “maximum reimbursement amount“ for the products? I know it is different from the retail price.
No we will calculate that for you. You just enter the retail price of the product.

Can I use generics?
No: As always Quit Bucks must be filled with the name brands. Use only Nicoderm CQ®, Nicorette® Gum, or Commit™ Lozenges.

Is possible for one coupon to be used for two products?
Yes. A single Quit Bucks coupon may be written for more than one product. Provide the products as indicated on the coupon.

Is it possible for one coupon to be used for more than a two-week supply of one product?
No. There may be a rare extenuating circumstance (the person is going on a 3-week vacation, for instance) where the local tobacco coordinator may allow this. The coordinator would note that on the coupon and should also give you a call.

Are prescriptions required with Quit Bucks coupons?
No

The customer has private insurance. I submitted the claim and it was denied.
Or
What do I do with privately insured customers?
Do not submit claims to private insurers. No claims, no co- pays!

What if the coupon has expired?
Do not fill it unless the local coordinator says it is okay.

What do I do with all these copies?
Keep one for your store and send the remaining copy for reimbursement.

When do I get reimbursed?
Reimbursement requests are processed the first week of the month after you send them in. Checks will be sent once a month, usually the third week in the month.

Are $20 Quit Bills extinct?
They are rare, but not extinct. A person with VHAP or Medicaid may use a Quit Bill to cover the copay

Can VHAP and Medicaid members use Quit Bucks?
Medicaid covers the cost of NRT (with an Rx) for its clients so they do not need Quit Bucks. If the member owes a co-pay, a Quit Bill may be used to offset that cost.

Yes. Indicate the amount of the co-pay on the Quit Bill where it says “Medicaid or other co-pay.”

Tell me about Direct Shipping of NRT.
As of February 1, 2007 clients of the Ready, Set…STOP program, if they choose, can have their NRT delivered directly to their door. Many continue to use Quit Bucks coupons because they like the personal service of their local pharmacy.
